E Ink Partners with FUJIFILM Imaging Systems to Enter Japan's Railway Market, Targeting Color ePaper Advertising Signage
2026-10-27

E Ink Holdings has teamed up with FUJIFILM Imaging Systems to develop the large-size color ePaper advertising signage market, starting with Japan's railway industry. Product evaluation is under way, with 55-inch and B1-size E Ink Marquee solutions scheduled for sampling from December 2026 and mass production from March 2027.

E Ink Holdings, a global leader in ePaper technology, has announced a partnership with FUJIFILM Imaging Systems Co., Ltd. to jointly develop the large-size color ePaper advertising signage market, initially focusing on Japan's railway industry. The two sides are currently evaluating products, and large-size ePaper signage products are expected to be rolled out starting in 2027 once the evaluation is completed.

As Japan's railway industry faces labor shortages and the cost of conventional paper posters keeps rising across printing, transportation, posting and replacement, ePaper is becoming an important option for railway operators looking to replace traditional paper-based information displays. ePaper signage allows display content to be updated digitally, helping operators streamline information updates, reduce paper consumption and waste, and achieve more flexible and timely information delivery.

Hong Jimao, General Manager of E Ink Holdings, said: "As E Ink continues to make progress in large-size and color ePaper technology, we see broad market potential for ePaper to replace conventional printed posters in Japan's transportation industry. ePaper combines a paper-like, comfortable visual experience with the flexibility of digital content updates, helping companies streamline content updates, lower printing costs and material waste, and present real-time information at extremely low power consumption."

Takashi Toyofuku, Director of FUJIFILM Imaging Systems, said: "FUJIFILM Imaging Systems has accumulated extensive expertise in imaging, printing, color management and quality control, which complements E Ink's leading advantages in ePaper technology. By integrating the technical capabilities of both sides and combining existing customer resources, we will further drive the adoption of large-size ePaper in the Japanese market, starting with railway advertising and information signage scenarios and gradually expanding to other industries in the future."

The two companies also announced the specifications and expected launch schedules of the color ePaper products they plan to develop:

55-inch E Ink Marquee

Samples expected in December 2026

Mass production expected to start in March 2027

B1-size E Ink Marquee

Mass production expected to start in January 2028

The partnership will combine E Ink's strengths in ePaper technology with FUJIFILM Imaging Systems' customer resources, installation capabilities and operational experience in the railway industry to jointly provide integrated large-size color ePaper signage services, covering customer solution planning, product introduction, installation and deployment, and ongoing operations, driving the adoption of ePaper technology in railway advertising and information display scenarios in Japan.
