E Ink and Dashu Pharmacy Open Smart Pharmacy Demonstration Store Powered by ePaper
2026-10-20

E Ink has partnered with leading pharmacy chain Dashu Pharmacy to open a smart pharmacy demonstration store in Taoyuan, Taiwan, China, bringing ePaper displays and sensing into pharmaceutical retail. The project features a pressure-sensing full-color E Ink Prism floor, interactive smart shelves and four-color electronic shelf labels to improve health education, pharmacy efficiency and elderly care.

On October 14, E Ink joined hands with Dashu Pharmacy to open a smart pharmacy demonstration store, bringing ePaper technology into pharmaceutical retail. Supported by the Smart Photonic Display Industry Promotion Program of the Industrial Development Administration under the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the project integrates digital technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), smart sensing, advanced displays and system integration, and validates innovative technologies in real-world settings such as pharmacies. Beyond delivering quality smart healthcare and health-care services to the public, it also builds a replicable innovation business model and accumulates the capability to export the technology, helping upgrade the precision health industry in Taiwan, China.

Partnering with Dashu Pharmacy on a smart health-education demonstration store to lead pharmacy chain digital transformation

E Ink has cooperated with Dashu Pharmacy, a leading pharmacy chain in Taiwan, China, to carry out scenario validation and demonstration operation of smart display technologies at the Dashu Pharmacy Taoyuan Cultural and Creative Park store. By introducing ePaper display and sensing technologies into chain pharmacy stores, Dashu Pharmacy can enrich interactive health education experiences, while relying on automated and intelligent management to reduce the workload of on-site pharmacists and improve operating efficiency. Together the two sides set a new benchmark for the intelligent transformation of pharmacy chains, realizing cross-platform integration of smart retail and smart healthcare.

ePaper pressure-sensing floor system

Under the Smart Photonic Display Industry Promotion Program, the project team introduced a smart pressure-sensing ePaper floor solution. The solution uses color-changing, glare-free and low-power full-color E Ink Prism together with high-precision pressure sensing, so the floor is no longer just a measurement tool but also an intuitive visual guidance and interaction interface.

  • Intuitive foot guidance with dynamic switching: The ePaper panel can display footprint positioning guidance directly on the floor, and switch between standby patterns, guidance markers or center-of-gravity measurement results according to the scenario, eliminating the hassle of replacing physical stickers.
  • No backlight and low power, ideal for long-term display: ePaper consumes no power while an image is static, and its paper-like, soft and eye-friendly look makes it highly suitable for long-term display, while also making physical fitness tests easier for elderly users.
  • Dual-display collaboration: The floor ePaper handles foot interaction and center-of-gravity point display, while a companion screen in front shows the operation flow and dynamic center-of-gravity trajectory, delivering a multi-dimensional interactive experience and precise physical assessment.

Interactive smart shelves: picking up a product instantly triggers full-color ePaper health information

To improve the interactive experience and the accuracy of information access when consumers choose medicines and health supplements in pharmacies, the project deployed interactive smart shelves equipped with sensing systems and full-color ePaper.

Pick-up triggers interaction: When consumers select and pick up a product, the shelf sensing system captures the motion signal and simultaneously refreshes the interface of the full-color ePaper board beside the shelf, displaying product details and pushing health education content.

Four-color electronic shelf labels (ESL): transparent product information and safer management

Extending to front-line pharmacy services, the color display capability of electronic shelf labels (ESL) is used to optimize the pharmacy service experience.

Color-coded labeling: Different colors distinguish product categories such as health supplements and medical devices, helping consumers quickly locate target products.

Complete information synced from the cloud: Breaking through the layout limits of traditional paper labels, the electronic labels embed QR codes so consumers can scan to view the full instruction leaflet, while price and inventory data can be updated remotely from the back end, enabling intelligent retail and health management.

Industrial Development Administration drives industrial upgrading and opens a new global precision health market

Backed by the Smart Photonic Display Industry Promotion Program, ePaper display panels and sensing components have been upgraded into high-value-added system solutions. The deployment of the smart pressure-sensing ePaper floor, interactive smart shelves and four-color electronic shelf labels improves the service quality of local pharmaceutical retail scenarios and optimizes health-care experiences for elderly groups, while consolidating the foundation for cross-domain technology integration and fully demonstrating the global competitiveness of Taiwan, China in smart healthcare and advanced displays.
