E Ink, the world's leading ePaper technology company, has officially launched E Ink Kaleido 4, its next-generation color ePaper technology. Hanvon Technology, a pioneer in China's ePaper reader market, is the first to adopt the platform and has integrated it into its M10C Gen 2 smart ePaper notebook, making the product the world's first device powered by E Ink Kaleido 4.

E Ink Kaleido 4 retains ePaper's core advantages of low power consumption and paper-like reading, while further improving color reproduction, brightness, contrast and dynamic display performance.
Li Zhenghao, Chairman of E Ink Holdings:
“Color ePaper continues to move toward richer, more natural color. E Ink Kaleido 4 delivers across-the-board upgrades in color performance, brightness, contrast, paper-like reading comfort and dynamic display capability, bringing users a more refined and fluid color ePaper experience. We are delighted to work with Hanvon Technology on the world's first product featuring E Ink Kaleido 4, jointly expanding next-generation color ePaper into diverse scenarios such as professional reading, learning and mobile productivity.”
Wang Jie, Vice President of Hanvon Technology:
“The M10C Gen 2's global debut with E Ink Kaleido 4 is not a simple screen upgrade. Centered on next-generation color ePaper, it is a systematic optimization of display quality, fast refresh, handwriting experience, voice recording and AI features. Through the M10C Gen 2, we hope to extend color ePaper from a reading device to productivity scenarios such as development tools, professional document review, meeting notes and mobile office work.”

Compared with the previous generation, E Ink Kaleido 4 doubles color gamut volume to more than 40K, raises white-state reflectance by 15% and improves contrast by 50%. These upgrades allow color ePaper to present images, charts, presentations and video content more clearly beyond reading text, effectively reducing graininess on screen.
The new E Ink Kaleido 4 color ePaper uses an all-new Oxide-TFT backplane that supports higher driving voltages, thereby accelerating screen refresh. Building on this, Hanvon Technology combined its in-house boost instant-float technology with the T2000 timing controller chip to optimize display driving and refresh at the system level, making the M10C Gen 2 smoother when turning pages and swiping, with a 27% improvement in operating speed. A newly designed front light system also makes colors appear more natural, clear and delicate.

By introducing a new algorithm, E Ink Kaleido 4 further enables video playback of up to 18 frames per second (fps), extending ePaper from a display medium mainly for static content to motion video and richer digital content applications.
As ePaper application scenarios extend from e-book reading to digital note-taking, learning, professional reading and mobile office work, the content users read and process has also expanded from plain text to color PDFs, PPTs, data charts, textbook illustrations, popular science atlases and engineering drawings.
Under this trend, color ePaper must not only reproduce color, but also strike a better balance among color, brightness, contrast and clarity to present information accurately and completely. The newly designed E Ink Kaleido 4 will create more application possibilities for ePaper in education, professional reading, mobile office and digital content.
Beyond display experience, the M10C Gen 2 also integrates Hanvon Technology's capabilities in electromagnetic stylus handwriting, OCR text recognition, voice and AI office features, further translating E Ink Kaleido 4's display advantages into real reading, note-taking and productivity applications.
For example, the M10C Gen 2 supports cloud library synchronization, a ripple dynamic smoothing algorithm, responsive scaling and optimized font rendering for third-party app interfaces, further improving cross-application fluency while balancing mobile office work and digital reading.
For the writing experience, the M10C Gen 2 carries Hanvon Technology's in-house 8192-level pressure-sensitive, wireless and battery-free electromagnetic stylus, delivering fine and precise handwriting. The screen surface uses a black tempered glass panel combined with a high-transmittance, handwriting-grade micro-etching process that effectively reduces glare and parallax reflection, while providing writing friction closer to real paper for a better paper-like experience in reading, writing and note-taking.
