Shenzhen accessory manufacturer JSAUX, known for its transparent Steam Deck replacement shells, has now turned its attention to Valve's latest project, the Steam Machine. The company is producing a plug-and-play replacement solution for the E Ink panel originally developed by Valve engineers.

Valve released its E Ink panel as an open-source design, but users need a certain level of engineering knowledge to assemble it themselves. JSAUX's product line includes a monochrome E Ink panel matching the one provided by Valve, as well as a smaller color E Ink panel and a color dot matrix display.

JSAUX shared four images of their current prototypes with Digital Foundry, showcasing the actual appearance of each option. Notably, both the E Ink and color E Ink panel solutions feature integrated batteries and wireless connectivity, enabling weeks of wireless use, while the dot matrix display requires USB connection for power.

The dot matrix option certainly has room for improvement to look cleaner — perhaps using a flat ribbon cable to sit flush with the Steam Machine's side panel — but for those who prefer to avoid the soldering and 3D printing required by Valve's DIY design, all three options appear to be solid alternatives.

There is currently no information on pricing or exact launch timing. Engineering samples of the dot matrix display version may be available for testing around late July, with retail versions expected to follow shortly after.
